Virat Kohli Becomes First Indian to Score 50 Centuries in International Cricket

Virat Kohli etched his name permanently into the pantheon of cricket's all-time greats on Saturday when he reached his 50th international century — across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is — during the third ODI against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, becoming the first Indian and only the second player in history after Sachin Tendulkar to achieve the milestone.

The 35-year-old right-hander brought up the century off 98 balls with a trademark cover drive, prompting the iconic Mumbai crowd to erupt in a standing ovation. Kohli removed his helmet and looked skywards in an emotional gesture before being embraced by batting partner KL Rahul.

"This moment is for every Indian who has believed in me when I doubted myself. For my family. For Sachin Paaji who showed us what was possible," an emotional Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Tendulkar himself, present in the VIP box, was seen wiping tears as he applauded his successor. The Don Bradman of the modern era took to social media to congratulate Kohli: "Your dedication and passion for the game is an inspiration to all."

BCCI President Roger Binny announced a ₹1 crore cash reward for Kohli, while the Maharashtra government declared it would name a cricket stadium in his honour.
